We chose a smaller home and a much bigger backyard.
We are Dalia, Scott, and Beta. In 2020, while trying to imagine our next apartment and our next chapter, we asked a different question: what if home could move with us?
That question became an Airstream, a well-traveled yellow 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser named Amarilla, and a life organized around workdays, travel days, family visits, public lands, state parks, and the occasional unplanned repair. We moved into the Airstream full time in September 2020 and spent the following months learning how much adventure—and how much ordinary life—can fit inside a very small space.
The photos are easy to love: desert skies, national parks, changing leaves, snow on the trailer, and Beta looking pleased with nearly every campsite. But the road also taught us through missed reservations, frozen systems, a blown tire, lost keys, long drives, and generous people who stopped to help.
That is why this site exists.
Humans of the Outdoors is not only a record of where we went. It is a collection of the people we met, the problems we solved, the lessons we earned, and the moments that made an unfamiliar place feel like home. We share the beautiful parts and the inconvenient parts because both are useful—and both belong to the story.
If you are planning an RV trip, considering full-time travel, working remotely from the road, or simply looking for a reason to spend more time outside, we hope our experience helps you begin with more confidence and fewer surprises.
Welcome. We are glad you found us.
