Humans of the Outdoors is an independent travel and outdoor publication operated by Dalia and Scott. This notice explains how we handle information when you use this website.
Information you provide
If you use our Contact form, you may provide your name, email address, and message. We use this information only to read, respond to, and manage your request—for example, a reader question, correction, press inquiry, or partnership message. Please do not send sensitive personal information through the form.
Contact submissions may be processed by WordPress, the services that deliver and protect the site, and the mailbox used by the site owners. We keep correspondence only as long as reasonably necessary to respond and manage it, then delete it from active records. Backups may retain a copy for a separate, limited backup cycle.
Delivery, security, and essential cookies
Our hosting, delivery, and security providers process technical information such as IP address, request time, requested URL, browser or device headers, and security events to deliver the site, protect it from abuse, troubleshoot problems, and maintain reliability.
The site uses Cloudflare in front of GoDaddy Managed WordPress. Cloudflare may set the necessary __cf_bm cookie for bot management. This cookie supports site security rather than analytics or advertising.
Analytics cookies
With your consent, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand aggregate site use, including page views, traffic sources, page addresses and titles, browser/device information, approximate location, and basic engagement. We use these reports to improve stories, navigation, and site reliability.
We use Google Consent Mode and an analytics-cookie banner. Analytics is off by default. If you decline analytics cookies, Analytics cookies are not stored; limited consent-mode signals may still be sent to communicate your choice to Google. You can accept, decline, or later change your analytics preference through the cookie-settings control.
We do not enable Google Signals, advertising personalization, Google Ads linking, user-provided data collection, or custom analytics events at launch. We do not intentionally send Contact-form entries, names, email addresses, message content, WordPress user IDs, or exact private locations to Google Analytics.
Google Analytics uses IP addresses at collection time for geographic information; Google states that GA4 discards IP addresses before they are logged. We set user-level and event-level Analytics data retention to 14 months. Aggregated reports can remain available under Google Analytics’ own reporting-retention practices. Sharing
We share information only with providers that help host, protect, deliver, measure, or operate the site; when you ask us to do so; or when necessary to protect rights, safety, or legal obligations. We do not sell Contact-form information or use it for cross-site advertising.
Your choices and requests
You can change your analytics-cookie preference at any time using the cookie-settings control. You may also use the Contact page to ask about information you submitted, request a correction or deletion where applicable, or ask a privacy question. We may need to verify that a request relates to you before acting on it.
Links and children
This site links to other sites, including Instagram. Their privacy practices apply after you leave this site. Humans of the Outdoors is a general-audience publication and is not directed to children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the Contact form, contact us so we can review and delete it where appropriate.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the site changes its forms, providers, analytics, email program, embeds, revenue methods, or privacy practices. We will update the effective date and explain material changes when useful.
